Operations Manager (New)

West-Can Human Resource Solutions is currently recruiting, on behalf of our client, for a Operations Manager position in Brandon to start immediately.

The Position

To direct receiving, warehousing and distribution operations. You will oversee the efficient receipt, storage, and dispatch of our wide array of products. Support the sale and scheduling of product deliveries to our retail and partner locations across Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta.

Position Requirements

• Proven experience as a manager / supervisor
• Expertise in warehouse management procedures and best practices
• Experience in distribution logistics (scheduling, order fulfillment, route planning, tracking)
• Hands on experience with warehouse management software and databases
• Leadership skills and ability manage staff
• Strong decision making and problem solving skills
• Strengths in follow-up and attention to detail
• Excellent communication skills
• Inside/outside sales experience preferred

• Combination of education and experience in warehouse / logistics. Post-secondary education preferred.

Administrative Repo Clerk

West-Can Human Resource Solutions is currently recruiting for an Administrative Repossession Clerk in Brandon, MB

Position Purpose:

To manage all aspects of the Corporation’s affairs, including program development, staffing, funding, financial management, community partnerships, communications, facility/venue management, and reporting.

– Day to day communication and reporting to clients about ongoing repossessions
– Track files through the system to ensure updates are being done in a timely manner
– Provide administrative support for bailiffs – review file summaries and advise what’s required to complete file work
– Assist repo staff and problem solve issues – assist locating debtors and/or security
– Be familiar with Consumer Protection Act and know what requirements are in place for seizures
– Follow up with bailiffs and repo admin on workflow and processes or issues.
– Problem solve with manager and/or bailiffs as required – solve equity threshold questions (valuation of security)
– Be familiar with databases and be prepared to do collections as necessary
– Be familiar with Quickbooks and invoicing
– Be prepared to do back up training on Process serving
– Be cross trained in other departments as assigned

Job Requirements
– Excel, Word, Microsoft Outlook, Database (we use an industry specific software called Collect!)
– Use of scanner
– Mathematical skills and geographical skills are essential
– Quickbooks preferable

Apprentice Carpenter

General Description:

The Apprentice Carpenter will be responsible for assisting with all construction activities that take place on the work site, ensuring high standards of workmanship and efficiency and working a safe manner.

Specific Duties:

  • Assist on site with excavations, and concrete pours
  • Assist with the building of foundations, installing floor beams, laying sub-flooring, installing of walls and roofing systems
  • Assist in the fitting and installing trim, doors, stairs, moulding and hardware
  • Measuring, cutting and joining materials made of wood or wood substitutes
  • Repairing and renovating wooden structures
  • Reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings and sketches
  • Ensure that you are complying with all safety practices
  • Participate in construction activities in relation to plans
  • Keep construction site clean and safe
  • Respectful interactions with van Veen’s customers the Building Inspectors and sub-contractors
  • Responsible to respect all tools and ensure that the owner or your supervisor is made aware of any replacements required in a timely fashion
  • Complete and submit your time sheet bi-weekly
  • Other duties as assigned

Responsibilities and Procedures:

  • The Apprentice Carpenter will demonstrate an ability to work well with fellow staff members.
  • The Apprentice Carpenter will have a valid driver’s license and the use of a vehicle for work
  • The Apprentice Carpenter must be physically fit and able to perform functions and activities on a construction work site.

Education, Training and Experience:

  • Levels one or two in Carpentry apprenticeship preferred
  • Minimum 2 years experience in construction of Residential, and Commercial buildings
  • Must be attentive to detail, logical and organized
  • Must be punctual and will communicate any required time off  or problems to the Owner or Supervisor in a timely fashion.
  • Must be a team player who will contribute to a positive, healthy work environment.

General Labourers - Temporary

West-Can Human Resource Solutions is currently recruiting for temporary General Labourers in Portage La Prairie, MB.

The Position 

Our client is looking for General Labourers to assist with the manufacturing and installation of covers on the city’s two new holding tanks. This position will start around July 9th, 2018 and will be scheduled to last for approximately fifteen weeks with an hourly compensation and a sizable retention bonus at the end of the project. The work schedule on this project will be from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm Monday thru Saturday.  Hours may vary depending upon project requirements.


General duties will include, but not limited to the installation of tank liners and piping, setting up the new cover, assisting with the heat welding of the cover materials, attaching the new cover, installing accessories, cleaning up the job site and any other general labour duties required.

Successful candidates will require steel toe boots, dependable transportation to and from the site, flexibility in their schedule, a good work ethic and a history of being a reliable employee.

The Position
Reporting to the owner, the Operations Manager will be involved in many aspects of the business and be instrumental in its operations, sales and HR management. The Operations Manager is a strong leader, well organized, providing assistance with business development and process improvement. Concrete Worker

West-Can Human Resource Solutions is currently recruiting for a Concrete Worker in Rapid City, MB

Concrete Worker Description

  • This is skilled manual labour in the construction and maintenance of concrete structures.
  • Work of this class involves building, setting and aligning concrete forms, placing wire mesh and concrete and applying fine concrete finishing methods in new residential construction and the building of sidewalks, fences, retaining walls and related concrete structures.
  • Responsibilities include interpreting blueprints and reading survey stakes to establish grade and estimating volume of concrete required for specific jobs. The incumbent may instruct and direct a small group of labourers engaged in mixing and placing concrete, as required, particularly on larger jobs.
  • There is limited opportunity, however, for minor independent decision making, particularly once experience is acquired.
  • Incumbents generally work under the immediate supervision of a foreman.

Specific Duties

  • Builds, erects and aligns forms for various concrete structures and foundations for residential construction including grade beam piles and ICF blocks
  • Estimates concrete quantities, appropriate mixes of sand and cement if concrete is hand mixed.
  • Directs labourers and/or personally performs duties of cutting and placing reinforcing wire mesh, re bar, ICF basement forms and placing, pouring and rough leveling of concrete.
  • Fine finishes concrete by floating, trowelling, edging and brushing in accordance with specifications.
  • Interprets blueprints and reads survey stakes to establish correct grades.
  • Utilizes hand tools and non-complex small power tools and performs minor maintenance as required.
  • Maintains simple records.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills

  • Considerable knowledge of the standard methods, materials, tools and equipment used in concrete construction and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to the work.
  • Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints and make simple calculations in order to read survey stakes and calculate areas and volumes.
  • Skill in the use and care of hand and small power tools associated with the work.
